This past Sunday as part of Mike’s sermon and then again reiterated in a gathering I attended, there is an emphasis on the mission that is right in our own backyard.
It is so important that we are going to the ends of the world to share the Good News of Christ but that cannot negate or replace the equal call to reach out to our our city and community.
There are many non-believers here in Regina and even the opportunity for cross cultural impact without leaving our city.
This is the idea of a glocal mission. It is an initial local connection point that has the potential for global impact.
We are able to love those that are right around us, as God works in and through us. We can love those we meet at 7-11, or that serve us at restaurants, that we are behind in line at a grocery store, that live down our street. And as we love them and get to know them, God will use us to be His light, His life, His workmanship.
The meeting I attended Sunday was specifically focused on the International Students. There are 300,000 international students in Canada, and over 2000 in Regina. There are ministries going on in our city to welcome, care and be Christ to these newcomers.
GOING doesn’t have to mean overseas; the nations have come to us!
Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Acts 1:8 (NLT)
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
This coming weekend is our spiritual renewal weekend with guest from the Alliance of Renewal Churches – Mike Bradley and Fred Thoni. The theme is Scandalous Love – this is the love we are talking about sharing around the world and in our own backyard. This is the same love that we were called to, that we were saved by and that we are meant to share. Come, be filled, be renewed, and be challenged.
