This Sunday we wrapped up our current section in the Multiply series – Life in the Church focusing on the Global Church.
We are one body, not only in the our church but as the global church – one body with many parts. We are one vital part to what happens around the world.
God’s intention is for us to be involved in the global mission that was why when Christ was ascending he said:
“Therefore go and make disciples of ALL nations…” – Matthew 28:19
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, tell people about me EVERYWHERE – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” – Acts 1:8
We are all responsible for the spread of the gospel around the world.
this doesn’t mean we all need to move and become missionaries in some far off country. In fact we NEED people who can stay, who can pray, who can send, and who can support.
We need people who are willing to make disciples and be witnesses right here in our community and in our city.
These are both part of the same mission – it is not an either/or thing, its a both/and – the global mission INCLUDES our local mission.
One common problem is that people can feel quite overwhelmed by the options presented – there is so many ways to support, serve and give locally and globally.
Let me be extremely clear – YOU CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT BE GIVING TO EVERY OPPORTUNITY.
We each need to find the things that God is calling us to PARTNER with. And once we find those things, dedicate and commit to truly partnering with them. It might be one opportunity, it might be 10. Between you and God, you need to decide what that looks like for you and your family. If you find yourself being drained by giving and no longer having joy within it – you probably need to focus your giving and support to the things God is calling you to be part of.
The important thing to remember is that as followers of Christ we are all called to make disciples and to be witnesses of ALL NATIONS. If you are called to stay in Regina, that is good – obey that call – but also consider how you can be part of the global mission – to spread the Good News to all nations, to those who have never heard, to those that need to hear.
We want to be a church that:
Reaches Up | Reaches In | Reaches Out
And not in a “I want to be this one today” sort of way, but rather in a “we’re all 3” sort of way.
We need to be constantly reaching up and worshipping God, to be so filled and connected with Him that we can’t help but share it with those around us as we reach in and develop each other into disciples so that together, as partners, we can reach out to the world and share the Good News with everyone.
I encourage you and challenge you this week to prayer and submit to God how He is calling you to be involved in His global mission. Perhaps it is partnering with an organization or individual, perhaps it is moving around the world, or perhaps it is actually reducing the number of places you give to so that your work and your partnering can be more focused on the things God has called you and your heart to be part of.
